Frome is the crossroads of the country, where the two mighty highways of Elen finally cross. It is the final stopping point for anyone from the North, South, and West of the kingdom before finally reaching Charlemagne. Frome is home to only 139 permanent residents, all of whom make their trade off the passing travellers and caravans. Due to their proximity to Mount Zion's fumes, growing any crops at real scale is incredibly difficult. Luckily, many travellers are willing to pay the going rates to house their horses and themselves for a night, There is one temple and only two standard public guards. There are 14 homes in the town, most of which are atop businesses that cater to the travellers.
The Temple of St. Agatha was not built after the ordinary cruciform style. It is instead modelled after the Sídh of the Tuatha de Danaan, though some claim that this is a macabre reference to one of the methods of torture St. Agatha endured before her martyrdom. This temple is a common destination for those with babies who will not eat, those with vows of virginity who are being tempted, and those who feel doubt creeping into their faith.
The blessing of this temple is: "You can cast the spell Protection from Energy one time without material components."
The King's Cauldron is Frome's largest inn. It has over a dozen rooms, 10 of which are rented out privately as opposed to the usual shared-bed accomodations common throughout the kingdom. It is owned by Briar Cuppin, a short man who is famous for how he flies off the handle at the slightest provocation but never actually follows through on his threats. This inn is commonly used by the upper crust of travellers- the leaders of caravans, the knights, the nobles, even the King, on occasion.
The Sprouted Seed is an inn of low repute. It is well known that Mr. Oak, the owner, and a former Mercenary of Duke Deccan, is an evil man. Since setting up shop here after the Conquering of Elen he has seemingly kept his nose clean. Rumors fly like mosquitos that any villains, thieves, brigands, or traitors will find safe respite at The Sprouted Seed.
Singlespeed is a travel supply store owned by a wiry young man named Seamus. It has basic parts for replacements and repairs for all of the ordinary means of conveyance, as well as sundries needed on the long road. Everything here is a bit more expensive than at a village store, but he's also the only game in town. He employs a handful of craftsman apprentices to perform repairs for the shop. These lads are open to sidework.
The Well at the Crossroads is a classic fairy tale well that's been at the intersection of the King's Highways for as long as anyone can remember. Nobody remembers who built it, but it's said that the lord grants the wishes of the pure of heart who visit and drink from it.
"Sir" Ike Osvald of Overyonder is a vagabond (though he calls himself a hedge knight) who has taken up residence in the city of Frome and doesn't seem to have any intention of wandering off any time soon. He is obsessed with the trappings of Knighthood, Chivalry, and Nobility, and works tirelessly to spread those throughout the city. He is frequently (twice a season, at least) throwing tourneys and balls, paying the rent for his facilities out of the tournament fees. He only ever barely breaks even on them, yet somehow always has an ancient valuable artifact to present as the tourney's reward. Likewise, he always has a new excuse for why he can't present his patents of nobility. His statblock is that of a Knight, though he has access to a fitting Rare magic item (next tourney's prize).
Sister Cindy is the ranking priest at St. Agatha's. She is an old woman with wiry grey hair who lost her breasts in one of the annual deomonic attacks shortly after she joined her convent. She specializes in fire and brimstone sermons and offers little comfort to those who come to her temple in search of reassurance of their faith. She has grown callous over the years, and many of her 15 sisters, priests, and deacons try to keep people in vulnerable positions away from her. Her statblock is that of a Priest.
Father Green and Sister Bella are a retired priest and nun from the Temple of St. Benedict in Charlemagne. After they realized that their love for one another was true, and that their vows of holy orders had been overpowered they retired from their orders, accepting their excommunication with grace. They now own one of the several taverns in Frome (it is called the Holy Union). Their statblocks are those of Priests.
Deadman Daniels is a supposed ghost that haunts the graveyard connected to the Temple of St. Agatha. It is a traditional belief that the first creature buried in a new graveyard is the forced to remain until the end of that graveyard, protecting it from any who would profane or desecrate it. For this reason it is common for the building of a new Temple to include the buring of a large black dog beneath a cornerstone. St. Agatha's, being a large mound, lacks a cornerstone, and the builders forgot to bury a dog due to skipping the usual cornerstone blessings. Mr. Daniels is rumored to be one of the workers who built the temple who died in a vicious griffon attack on the day it was completed.
Heath Ironmill is the blacksmith of Frome. He supplies the nails, tools, and horseshoes used throughout both Frome and Eton. He is not a faithful man, though he almost seems to worship his hammer and anvil, speaking to them with regularity and fervor. He will often turn down requests to make weapons on the basis that his hammer refuses to. It is said that he even once turned down King Etheldred himself, and so is a banned establishment within the ranks of soldiers and guards the King keeps.
