Agincourt is the region of luxury, knowledge, and culture. Central to the kingdom of Elen, it contains much of the nation's wealth. Notably, it is home to the capital, Charlemagne. It is ruled over by Duke Dredd, the twin brother of King Etheldred. Duke Dredd is a powerful wizard intent on the education of the intellectual elite. It is for this reason that he funded the founding of Eton College, where many go to seek their nonmagical education.
Excluding Charlemagne, which largely operates as an independent region, the Agincourt region has 12,680 residents split over 13 towns. Three of the villages have libraries, and two others are home to castles. Most of the towns have a temple, but four of them have been desecrated or corrupted.
Agincourt has favorable trade relations with both Nottingham and Wealdstone. Duke and Dame Joseph and Ethyl, of Nottingham, want nothing more than to see their two sons prosper, and don't care much for their own power this late in their life. Dame Sarah, and her son Docent, of Wealdstone, are fiercely loyal to the king and his twin for their support in exiling the Dame's ex-husband.
Agincourt has strained relations with Chardsheim and Valencia. Valencia's disdain for Agincourt is understandable, as it is the new territory of Duke Deccan, the former ruler of Wealdstone. He capitulated to Duke Dredd's brother in one of the final battles of the Conquering of Elen. As Duke Dredd drew up the treaty, Deccan blames him for stripping him of his original land and banishing him to the poor mining region of Valencia. Chardsheim's testiness came as a shock to Duke Dredd. The ruler, Dame Mildred, was the childhood cook of both Dredd and Etheldred. She practically raised the boys, so Dredd was sure she would be a grateful and easy Dame, but she has turned out to be anything but. She knows the value of her produce, being by far the most lush land in the kingdom, and has been able to demand a premium for her wares. She spurns the magic offered by Agincourt, claiming that they "grow plenty on their own, thank you very much."
Mount Zion is the Axis Mundi of Elen, where the three realms of Heaven, Hell, and Elen are pierced into one another to connect. It is perpetually surrounded by fluffy white clouds that contain the black smoke pouring from the mouth of the Volcano. It is said that this is the location of the final battle between Good and Evil, and it is the duty of all men of God to protect the mountain and it's guardians, the men of Zion. It is visible throughout all of Chardsheim and Agincourt, and even from the mountaintops of Stormfront and Nottingham. It is a constant reminder of the conflict that all men contain between the Kind and the Cruel.
The Hingeton Mountain Range forms the borders between Agincourt and it's neighbors in Wealdstone, Stormfront, and Valencia. They are much taller in the North than in the South, with much fewer passes and valleys to make commerce an option. There are some few communities of Dwarves that are rumored to live within the stone, surfacing only near their peaks, but most consider this race to be either mythological or a subset of the Gnomish people. The Eastern portion of the Mountain Range is forested almost to it's top. The visitors to this portion vanish relatively frequently. The Southern portion is largely bald, but riddled with caves and is rumored to house slithering, swift, non-flying dragons.
The Sullivan River is the largest river in Elen, with it's headwaters in Chardsheim and it's outlet in the Ice Wall of Valencia. It cuts a wide swath, sometimes multiple miles across, through the heart of Elen. Barges, Ships, and Pirates are known to frequent it, stopping at port towns and ferry ports to offload their wares and passengers. It is said that if you swim deep enough into the Sullivan you will reach the river Lethe and lose your memories.
The River of Dread is the Sullivan's largest tributary and connects the Sullivan to Charlemagne. It's widest points are about 7 miles across. There are two might bridges that cross the River of Dread, built by King Ethedred in the establishment of his Highways. It is unwise to swim in the River of Dread downstream of Charlemagne, as the effluent and pollution of the city makes it reek until past Eton.
The Raven's Pass is the valley that connects the Agincourt to Stormfront. Though Stormfront is ruled over by the King's childhood friend, the residents on either side have taken up a bitter rivalry, both claiming to rule the pass. The Raven's Pass is named after the flocks of ravens, numbering in the tens of thousands, lining the path throughout the year. Travelers passing along the King's Highway will often be charged tolls by both Ravenvorden and Ravenwarden residents.
The Valencian Vale is the long and winding pass connecting Agincourt to Valencia. The mountains along this valley are so jagged that you often cannot see more than a quarter mile ahead. Thankfully, the mountains are shallow enough on either side that the path does not have a claustrophobic feeling. Many surprises await those who pass this vale, as it is a favored area for thieves of all varieties.
Agincourt is the largest city outside of Charlemagne in the region of Agincourt, though it is middling in comparison to other regional Cities. It is home to 9500 residents, with an average household size of 6. There are nearly 100 public guards employed by the Duke, in addition to the Knights of War and of Nobility who inhabit the city and fend for themselves. There are eight mages in the city, three of whom sit in council with the Duke on a regular basis. There are roughly 50 priests in the city split unevenly between two temples. Lastly there are three magic shops in town, one specializing in components, another in weapons, and a third in leather goods.
The Temple of St. Anthony is the home of 12 priests who have congregated around the anchoress Archbishop Joscelyn. These clergy are quite protective of their Archbishop, but they are willing to introduce her to those who have proven their sincerity. Their temple is quite humble in comparison to their counterparts next door. There are many empty rooms, which once belonged to their companions who have become lost. They believe that one day St. Anthony will find these lost brothers and sisters and return them, but until then, their rooms will be let out to pilgrims and heroes on holy quests.
The blessing of this temple is: "You can cast Locate Object with a duration of Concentration, up to 1 hour, one time without material components."
The Temple of St. Thomas Aquinas is home to 36 priests and led by Vicar Rex. They are a traditionalist sect in all theological beliefs, though they tend to be more focused on studying the nature of The Good than on herding their flock to perform The Good. Most of the priests are graduates of Eton College or retired philosophers and historians from throughout the realm. They seek to perform God's will by studying the past to determine God's will. They are not warriors, and most conversations with them will tend toward a lecture or a lesson, even if you come for a simple ceremony. Many of the priests take up niche areas of study, from brewing to biology, to economics. There is a 10% chance that, if you come to the temple with a particular question, one of the priests will be an expert on that topic.
The blessing of this temple is: "You can cast Comprehend Languages with a duration of 24 hours one time without material components."
Oswin of Hyde's is a ramshackle shop on the first floor of a residential home a ways out into town. He is an ancient man and a master leatherworker from the town of Hyde. He is known to employ hunters to find exotic pelts and skins. He has some finished works for sale, but mostly operates on orders. His waitlist is usually months long. It's said that when he dies, the leatherworking community will lose the last of the legends, with nobody working to be the new ones.
The Swords of Stormfront is a luxurious shop facing into Temple Square. It is owned by Rhiannon, a woman in her short twenties who might scrape five feet in height on a good day. She is not a smithy. She is not a trader. She is an enchanter and she will thank you to remember that. She ships masterworks in from the region of Stormfront and enchants them for her customers. She is even known to transfer enchantments, but only between weapons. She does tight, efficient work, but charges a premium.
Reams from Ramsgate is a small shop, well kept, two streets over from Temple Square. It is owned by Axin the Gnome, the patriarch of one of the three gnomish families in town. He is able to comprehend written languages thanks to his glasses. He sells arcane papers and inks, as well has occasional scrolls and other components.
Duke Dredd is the leader and ruler of Agincourt. His estate is in Agincourt, though he is a frequent visitor to his twin brother, King Etheldred. Both he and the king sport beards, though his has been dyed black through years of magical power. Apart from this difference, and Dredd's beard being much longer, both Dredd and Etheldred are identical, with broad shoulders, flowing hair, large muscles, and hard eyes that glow with anger. Dredd is a famed mage, even said to bilocate in both Agincourt and Charlemagne. He is the architect of the Treaty of Trust that ended the Conquering of Elen. It was he who assigned the borders of the 6 dukedoms. He is the King's closest and most trusted advisor. He is also the guardian of Mount Zion, where it is said the final confrontation between The Lord and The Devil shall take place. He is, in many ways, the most powerful of the Dukes of Elen. He has the statblock of an Archmage.
Reeve Juliana is the head of the guards of Agincourt. She is a fierce warrior with a massive red scar blinding one eye and cutting across her missing nose. She has a reputation of anger and overzealous punishment among her nearly 100 subordinates. She has slain multiple dragons and is said to bring dragon meat to every feast she attends. She has the statblock of a Blackguard.
Archbishop Joscelyn is the high priest of the Temple of St. Anthony. She is a humble and devout woman who became an Anchoress at the age of 26. She is so holy that many consider her to be in constant communion with St. Anthony himself. It is said that she can tell you the location of any missing object or child. She has the statblock of a commoner.
Vicar Rex is the high priest of the Temple of St. Thomas Aquinas. He is a failed wizard who turned to the priesthood in desperation for a live of study. He is thin and consistently dressed in a formal brown suit, as opposed to the traditional vestments of a priest. His nature is to be understanding and merciful to those who fail, given that they have demonstrated their effort. His statblock is that of a Priest, though with the a number of additional divination spells up to 6th level.
Codrain the Inquisitor is a subtle fellow. He is highly distinguished, a frequent attendant at the Duke's feasts, though he stays waifishly thin and pale at all times. He is also a traitorous spy, delivering information to those who hire him (often Duke Deccan). His estate is in Agincourt, but he is a frequent guest of King Ethedred in Charlemagne. His fortune comes largely from the lands he owns near Orford. There are symbols in thieves' cant throughout the city that mark him as a source for work. His statblock is that of a Spy.
Sir Lijart is a knight, a loyal vassal of Duke Dredd. He is large, muscled, and has golden hair that has never been cut. It was he who first questioned why the Duke, so dedicated to education, had not built a library in Agincourt. The Duke took this to heart and charged Sir Lijart with the duty of providing regular transportation to any who wish to the village of Eton. His statblock is that of a Champion.
