Bolsover is a medium sized town of 1370 that serves two primary purposes to the kingdom. Firstly, as a crossroads town, it is a frequent stop for travelers to and from both Chardsheim and Valencia. Secondly, it serves as a base of operations for the guards who patrol the Pass of Pancras. There is one temple that serves the town and all those who travel the long western roads of Elen. There are 22 guards who serve the town, though their ranks are often swollen by passing patrols and excursion parties heading to protect the Pass of Pancras. There are about 200 homes in the town, many of which are there solely to support the military passing through.
The Temple of St. Pancras is a small chapel with only 7 priests that serves a sprawling convent a few miles outside of town. Being dedicated to the patron saint of children, the priests and nuns of this temple spend most of their time ministering to the orphans delivered to them from all parts of Elen. Occasionally they are able to find a fitting home for the children in their care, at which time the Blessing of St. Pancras will be invoked. Often, though, they watch over the children who come to them until they are old enough to join the workforce.
The blessing of this temple is: "With one hour of prayer you can bless any written agreement, subjecting all signed parties to a 9th level Geas spell, breakable only by a Wish or God. The instruction of the Geas is to hold up the spirit of the bargain."
Tiny Trinket's Pots and Poem Emporium is a downright adorable shop nestled squarely in a massive clay mushroom that sprang up overnight. It is owned and operated by Tiny Trinket, a gnome dreamt up by an exhausted clay miner wondering what would eventually be made of his clay. He is an adorable fellow and master potter. He (and his many apprentices who have gone on to open shops all over town) make most of the pots distributed throughout the kingdom. They're so prevalent in Bolsover that they're used to store everything from fresh foods to valuable gems.
Armyville is the name of the neighborhood of utilitarian housing build on the south side of town. It is designed for soldiers and their families to live in relative comfort while awaiting their next steps. In the Summer, when the land West of the mountains is hunted by Knights, the nature of Armyville shifts greatly depending on which general is in town. Sometimes it becomes a seedy district of sin, other times, it becomes regimented and bright with the light of the Lord. When it's empty, it's often used by the kids of the town for games and dares.
The Mines of More Maroon is the source of Bolsover's chief export, high quality clay. They consist of an immense pit dug deeply into the ground with a number of offshoots deep into the crust where veins of previous materials were discovered and opportunistically extracted. They employ the bulk of the city of Bolsover, including many of the aged-out orphans of St. Pancras'. Every Winter it seems that the place gets re-infested with monsters, dragons, and demons hiding in the tunnels. One would think they'd stop digging them, but Jeremy Reichenheim demands more profits.
The Inn of Elegance is a high end eating establishment available to those who display their wealth and generosity. It is the extremely rare business operated by a full-blooded Elf. Though wealth is a requirement for entry, you will never pay a copper in Lady Willoweald's establishment. No, her charge is only that you make arrangements to be buried in her ancestral Sidh, deep in Nottingham forest. With a heavy sigh, she tells every customer that she'll be joining them there soon, if she doesn't arrive there first.
